Last Sunday 16 June 2024, the 2nd Junior Inter-Club Challenge between Collaroy Tennis Club and Careel Bay Tennis Club was held, with Collaroy hosting for the first time. It was a wonderful day of competitive, but a friendly game of tennis. Twelve boys and girls (11 to 17 years old) from each club played a round-robin of doubles in ‘Fast4’ format. Big Thanks to Careel Bay Tennis Club for visiting our lovely club at Collaroy and thank you to Evolve Tennis Academy for co-organising our team of junior players!
It was fantastic to see that all competitors played their best, as every game won counted towards the overall points tally. At the same time, all participants displayed a great deal of sportsmanship. The perpetual trophy was awarded again to Collaroy, after winning 125 to 59 games.
Congratulations to Oskar & Jordan from Collaroy and Gil & Thomas from Careel Bay, who won the most number of games for their respective clubs on the day.
‘Best and Fairest’ awards were also selected by their peers with Jordan from Collaroy and Jay from Careel Bay taking out these prestigious awards on the day.
Results aside, tennis and the wonderful friendships it builds, was definitely the winner. While play was always competitive, the atmosphere all day was one of fun and played in great spirit, both on-court and among spectator cheer squads on the sidelines. It was also wonderful to see many parents, relatives and club members support the competitors.
CTC Captain Wil Jauco and Careel Bay’s VP Steve Koolloos both thanked the participants and organisers at the trophy presentation and also mentioned about the similarities with the two clubs, the friendly rivalry that exists between us and just how much everyone enjoyed the day. Careel Bay President Graeme also spoke and relayed a wonderful story about perseverance and a never give up attitude.
Collaroy once again provided great hospitality in terms of our BBQ, with Chef Eric who cooked up an amazing sausage sizzle and the rest of the Collaroy team (Kate, Kenny, Damian and other happy helpers) prepared some stunning pizzas, fruits and other nibbles on the day.
We are already eagerly looking forward to the return clash next year at Careel Bay after another successful event. Well done to both clubs!
