Collaroy fielded four teams in this year’s Sydney-wide Badge Comp. ... and two of them made the Finals!
While our young girls’ team playing in the top division did it tough against experienced adults all comp., it was a great learning experience that will stand them in good stead moving forward. (We had girls as young as 14 taking on ladies with decades of experience!). Our Division 8 Men’s team was a little unlucky. Several washouts against weaker teams cost them valuable points, which would have earned them a semi-final spot. They fought well, but missed the cut.
Our Ladies Div. 6 team played superbly all comp., winning their way through to the Final. (They even won two matches against Sydney Uni. without dropping a game! Yep – 16 sets and 96 games to zero!) Unfortunately, the ladies from Strathfield were in top form in the Final and proved too strong on the day. Regardless, congratulations on a great comp. to Team Captain Lynne Bridges and regulars Kim D., Samantha, Felicia, Maria M., Anna G., Kimberly G., Simone and Maria R. … and to ‘Super Subs.’ Carmen and Ros.
Leaving the best news ‘til last, our Men’s Div. 11 team brought home the bacon! The score in the Final was an excellent 5-3 victory to Collaroy, with the result “never in doubt” according to Geoff. Congratulations to all team members: Damian, Gareth, Chris E., Geoff, Phil, Warren, Peter M. and Steve.
There were plenty of ‘first timers’ in both our Finals teams – players in their first ever competitions – so they’ll all be improved by the experience and ready for bigger and better results in 2025. Go ‘The Roys’!
