Sunday the 29th of October saw the inaugural Collaroy Wheelchair Tennis Club Championships take place under sunny skies. There were lots of smiles and an unusual lack of ‘steely looks’ between competitors during the matches. Coach extraordinaire, Paula Gibson Roy, proudly watched on (attempting to restrain her coaching instincts) as Isla, Rafferty, Tallow & Oscar demonstrated their skills, knowledge and love of the game.
It was actually hard to tell who enjoyed the matches more, the players or the spectators? With displays of amazing athleticism, close line calls and the players pushing hard, there was a lot to cheer about!
A big congratulations to the Winners: Isla Gillespie – Open Singles and Oscar Doman – Junior Singles. The Runners Up were Rafferty Stevens & Tallow Ra, respectively. The Doubles Competition saw Isla & Oscar combine, to win an exciting match over Rafferty & Tallow.
The biggest winner on the day was Collaroy Tennis Club! Club and Committee Members together with other attendees, witnessed another example of how the Club’s strong value of inclusion, makes Collaroy Tennis Club a richer and more welcome space for everyone. Lastly, thank you to Paula Gibson Roy, for your brilliant coaching and unwavering support of CTC’s Wheelchair Tennis players. - by Elisa Spano

Rafferty was lucky enough to be granted funding for a sports wheelchair through the D.A.F. and made this video, to not only say a big thank you to Dylan & his Foundation, but to encourage as many people as possible to donate!
Please visit Rafferty’s page and it will be very much appreciated if you can assist with this fundraising, to help others in need. Thank you in advance for your support!
